OH MY DAYS! How is it were on week 4 already! Seems time is flying by and were now in week 2 of April. I have to admit, it's been exhausting with it being half term. We've be in undated, with cakes and parties. I hope you have managed to survive, I know when my two we're little there was no let up! .. I've loved the rain, it's the perfect excuse to stay home and watch films.. I love a good rainy and windy day. Any lets recap where we left off.
last week ...
We finished off on the half trebles.. which was a nice and simple end to the week. Something mindful, to relax to. I've been having lots of chats with different ones who are thinking about joining this week by week chaptered pattern. Trying to explain, that it's not about making an over complicated pattern that you would feel deflated by, but enough of a challenge to be feel energised and refreshed, yet not losing the challenges along the way. I wanted you to feel that you are winning and something new. Whether is pattern reading, stitch placement or colour.
This week we will be building our last rows prior to our border.
There will be more colour changes, using simple stitches. But colour placement will add extra impact, almost the last wave of excitement.. leading the eye to our border. They will also add strength and stability to the outside edge of our border. Using rows of the linen stitch & granny square. Even though this part is simple, there will be more colour changes and more weaving in later. You've already worked on a lot of these stitch placements, so you'll burn through this quickly.
ROW 40 - moss stitch / LINEN STITCH (COLOUR CHANGE TO PISTACHIO)
Some of the stitches we will be working will be reflective of stitches we have worked before. We will be repeating row 30 & 20. This is our accent stitch as before. Then we will be working it through in a base, using the same stitch.
start your corner 4ch (1dc + 3 ch) and 1dc
ch1, skip 2 stitches and then work your 1dc between the post.
ROW 41 - 44 (4 rows) - Moss or LINEN STITCH (colour change to Fuchsia )
start your corner 4ch (1dc + 3 ch) and 1dc
ch1, skip 2 stitches and then work your 1dc between the post.
each new row, we will work the dc (double crochet) into the space we've made with the chain in the previous row. 1dc (into chsp) ch1, 1dc.. and so on
We will work this over 3 rows, from 43-46
LOOK! At that texture building....
To be honest if you wanted to change up your colours, you could do a row of each colour in your colour ways. It would look very effective! I love this stitches simplicty, yet a great
show case for colours. A great border for future reference.
ROW 45 (1 rows) - Moss or LINEN STITCH (colour change to pink)
start your corner 4ch (1dc + 3 ch) and 1dc
ch1, skip 2 stitches and then work your 1dc between the post.
We will be adding more of this stitch into the design, as we get closer to the border. I like this stitch as its simple, yet offers a lot of impact.
ROW 46 (1 rows) - v stitch & puff stitch in corners (colour change to pistachio)
Start in your corner with a ch2.
work a 5 loop puff on to your hook. ch3, and then another puff stitch into your corner
pattern will read ( chain 2up. 1 puff, ch3, 1 puff)
ch1, working your first V STITCH = [fp-tr (front post treble, around the dc stitch in the row below) ch1. Repeat the fp-tr around the same dc. ch1] this is your first v stitch.
ch1, between each v stitch placed.
REPEAT your v-stitches * Till you meet your next corner
CORNER = 1puff-st, ch3, 1puff-st
REPEAT ON ALL SIDES.
ROW 47 (1 rows) - bobble stitch flower (colour change to pink)
Start in your corner with a ch2.
work a 5 loop puff on to your hook. ch3, and then another puff stitch into your corner
pattern will read ( chain 2up. 1 puff, ch3, 1 puff)
CORNER = 1 PUFF, CH 3, 1 PUFF
Now we can start our bobble stitch flower.
If you've never worked a bobble stitch, it's similar to a puff. Except that we work it like a treble, going through 2 loops then another 2 loops to make the treble. Instead we work the first two loops, and go back into our chain space with a yarn over, and work the next two loops and so on. We need to do this 5 times. Till we have 6 loops on our hook. Then we yarn over and pull through all loops.
Each v - stitch space needs a bobble flower, with 2 chains between each flower.
1 bobble flower, ch 2
Work your corners with = 1 puff, ch 3, 1 puff
ROW 48 (1 rows) - treble (colour change to Fucshia )
Start in your corner with a ch2.
work 1tr, ch 3, 2tr
work into the next chain space. (between each bobble flower)
4tr into each chain space. Repeat till you come to the next corner
CORNER = 2tr, ch3, 2tr.
repeat until all your sides / rows are complete.
ROW 49 (1 rows) - double crochet (colour change to pistachio / lime)
Start in your corner with a ch2,
ch 3, 1 dc
work a dc (double crochet uk) into each of the stitches) repeat this along each side.
CORNERS = 1DC, CH3, 1 DC
ROW 50 (1 rows) - LINEN STITCH (colour change to Fuchsia )
Start in your corner with a ch4.
1dc, ch1 (skip 1dc below) 1dc, ch1 ... repeat till corner.
CORNER = 1dc, ch3, 1dc
repeat on all sides till complete. ss into the last chain of your chain up
ROW 51-52 (2 rows) - linen stitch(colour change to pistachio)
repeat row 43
you should have 2 rows of the linen stitch in pistachio.
ROW 53-54 (2 rows) - granny square stitch (colour change to white)
Start in your corner with a ch3.
STARTING CORNER = 2tr, ch3, tr3
ch1,skip the first chain space, work 3tr into the next chain space
repeat till you reach the corner.
CORNER = 3tr, ch3, 3tr
do this on all sides till you complete your rows.
ss, into the last stitch. ch4 up. Work back into your corner
CORNER = 3tr, ch3, 3tr
work your granny clusters into each chain space, working your corner as before.
ss into the last stitch.
ROW 55 (1 rows) - granny clusters (colour change to Fucshia )
Start in your corner with a ch3.
STARTING CORNER = 2tr, ch3, tr3
ch1,skip the first chain space, work 3tr into the next chain space
repeat till you reach the corner.
CORNER = 3tr, ch3, 3tr
do this on all sides till you complete your rows.
ss, into the last stitch.
and that's all folks till we work on our willow border next chapter or week. After which I will be working on all your feedback to finish our Midnight garden pattern book for beginners.
We would love your feedback to be part of our patterns journey & story
**If you have any feedback, tips or hacks that have supported you as a beginner, we would love to add your feedback and comments to our patterns. Along with pictures of your journey, colourways you've adapted. This way we can continue to encourage a building community of crocheters. Your faith and resilience helps inspire others to continue.. which means you journey, fast or slow means the world to someone else. Reminding them that they can do this, if they only keep trying.
